Updating the Everest - with the Mastercraftsman, Harvey Roof

OK, here we go! The carpet on our steps were just plain worn out so Harvey volunteered to help us replace the steps with some pretty wood ones. Here's the step by step pictures of the project.
1st, let's see what we have under the worn out carpet.

There it is, now what??

To Lowe's we go to buy the wood - then
measure, measure, measure!

Harvey overseeing "Grasshopper"

Sand, sand, sand. Now to talk Bruce into pulling the
rest of the carpet.

Our finished steps!! Thanks Harvey!! (Notice we talked
Bruce into pulling the rest of the carpet.)

Las Vegas, Mt. Charleston - Feb. 2012

The end of the rainbow in the area between our RV site and the Rifle Range! Hopefully this means it will be our lucky year!

My cousin trying to find a hat that is flashier than Bruce's - I think he accomplished his mission, LOL. Never a dull moment when you get Bruce and Harvey together!
Harvey, AKA Pimp Daddy
We took a day trip up to Mt. Charleston. Stopped for lunch at the Lodge, I had a yummy Ruben sandwich. We drove up up to the ski lift to check out the slopes. I wish I had a desire to try skiing but I just don't. It was fun watching others though.

Clark County Shooting Range, Las Vegas, Nevada - Feb. 2, 2012

Change of plans for our assignment this year. The Maintenance Supervisor, Bobby, asked Bruce to work directly with him as his "right hand man". I sure liked this since it meant that I only needed to work when I wanted! Bruce put in about 18-20 hours on Monday-Tuesday then a few more hours through the week, as needed. I helped out on Mondays removing shot up targets so that Bruce could put on new targets on Tuesdays. We had the usual time to get setup and relax before starting our assignment. My cousin, Harvey and his wife Valerie, will be joining us here this year. Anxious for their arrival!

Las Vegas - Here we come! Jan. 23 - 25, 2012

On the road again! Got Bruce's dad trained on getting mom into the compression boot and so here we go!!  We had decided to bring my car on this trip so Bruce's is driving the F250 and pulling the RV and I'm tagging along in my car. This should be interesting!!
Kiva RV Park - Tucumcari, NM
Our first night was in Tucumcari, NM at the Kiva RV Park. We'd stayed here before, just a basic park but had cable and great WiFi. We were in site #8 which was a very level pull through. They offered Good Sam's discount so not bad for $20.
I-40 with Flagstaff on the horizon.
Our second night was in Holbrook, AZ at the OK RV Park. We used our Good Sam card again so the rate was $25 plus tax ($27.53) The park was the typical desert setting, gravel with a few trees. Long pull through site #G11. My only complaint was they had a camper come in right next to us when the whole row was empty. Forgot to take pictures but we had a good excuse, temps drop into the 20s at night, they turn off the water at 7:30 pm and don't turn it back on until 10 am.
Sunset over Las Vegas
We got into Las Vegas around 3:30, we have the same site (#24) that we had last year at the Clark County Shooting Park.  Had a great reception from Linda and Phil, Vickie and Wade along with new neighbors, Sue and Jim, Terry and Pat. Other friends from last year stopped by later, Cindy and Jerry, Sharon and Mickey. It was great visiting with everyone. What a beautiful sunset we had our 1st night here!
This is our 3rd time to volunteer here and I guess this year they are actually going to have us do the hearing test and the lead blood test. Have our appointments for the tests on Monday. Looks like we are going to be Line Safety Officers this year. This should be interesting!

Austin, Texas - Jan. 5, 2012

Whew! Have we been busy!! We have had much fun with our families through the holidays then on Jan. 1, 2012 accompanied Jeannette, my sister in law, to bring my mother in law to Austin, Texas to be evaluated for Compression Boot therapy. The doctor thought that she was a good candidate so she started therapy immediately. Her therapy consists of a 90 minute session in the morning on the leg that is worse then a break for lunch. The afternoon started out at 45 minutes on each leg but has worked up to 90 minutes on each leg. Bruce came down on Tuesday to relieve Jeannette so she could get back to work and her family. We've been busy with getting her to therapy, lab work, getting her new shoes, moving to an extended stay motel, getting groceries and other things we didn't think about needing while we were here, etc.  To top our week off, someone tried to steal our truck last night! They punched out the door lock on the driver side door but they were unable to get inside or was spooked away, THANK GOD! What a mess that would have been and a costly one too. Bruce has been looking at new trucks but they are just too expensive for our budget right now and to find a good used one is very difficult. We are all ready for Jan. 15th to get here so we can head back to Lawton!

Home for the Holidays!

Having so much fun I've gotten behind in my blog! I'm going to just put our visit in Oklahoma all under this blog posting -
We set up our little home on wheels at Bruce's sister and brother-in-law's place near Meers, OK. Have had a great time visiting the family, Owen and Hayden are growing up too fast!
Our site at the Klein's - Thanks!!

Papa playing with the grand kids
Thanksgiving lunch was hosted by Jeannette and Skip and it was wonderful!  Stacy and Gary hosted dinner for his parents and us. For the Nix side, James and Diana hosted dinner on Saturday and what a crowd! Yes, three Thanksgiving meals and they were all wonderful and fun!!

Stacy and I went to Moore to get Hayden and to do a little shopping. Took Hayden up and down the toy aisle of Target 3 times having her pick out her birthday and Christmas presents, she is quite the character! She picked out a microphone for her birthday, that should make Michele and Brad happy. For Christmas, she wants a guitar that makes noise like daddy's. :-)
On Dec. 10th, we went to the Christmas Village at Cameron Baptist Church with Stacy, Gary, Owen and Hayden. They had various things for the kids to do in the village, such as make Christmas cards, ornaments and decorate cookies, just to mention a few things. That was a lot of fun and started getting crowded so headed to Sam's for some shopping.

We had a birthday party for Hayden on Dec. 11th at Stacy and Gary's. She is growing up way to fast!

We went to Owen's school Christmas play on Dec 13, that was so much fun and he did such a great performance!
