Another day of driving then stopped in Amarillo, TX at the Oasis RV Resort. It’s is a new park on the west outer edge of Amarillo. Nice but being new there are no trees or much else. They have a free laundry but didn't use it since we'll be back in Lawton tomorrow. No pictures either - hard to remember when you've been driving/riding all day!

Las Vegas, Nevada - Last Week
March 3, 2009 (Tuesday)
Linda and I went to Curves for our morning work-out. I’ve really enjoyed the work-out and Linda is a very sweet lady. We took Phil and Linda to the motorcycle shop, Arlen Ness Cycles. They allowed us to go through the customization shop where they work on the cycles. Even told us to sit on the cycles, which Phil was happy to oblige them. Back to the park, spent a little time in the pool and it was wonderful! We took Phil and Linda to dinner at Ellis Island Casino, they have great steak dinners for only $7.99.

One last trip to the Strip before we leave. It seemed very crowded, especially considering that the economy is so bad. Penny slots were busy and most of the $1 were empty, guess people have just downsized what they gamble. Bruce did pretty good tonight, started out with $20 and he left with $50. I left them a $20, guess since we don't gamble big it's harder to win big. Headed back to Lawton tomorrow, missing family and friends!

Las Vegas, Nevada - Nascar Race Week-end
Gotta love Las Vegas! |
We went to the Hauler Parade this morning since we didn’t go last year. Bruce even got interviewed by the local news - ABC channel 13. He did a great job too! We then did a little (actually a lot!) of walking down the strip and had a great time. I even won $70 on a nickel slot machine on the first spin (Wheel of Fortune). We took the money and got the heck out of there! I thought I’d bet 75 cents but Bruce explained that it was 75 x 5 cents. Good thing I didn’t know that or I wouldn’t have maxed out the bet!
Gordon's Hauler |
We went out to the track to watch qualifying then to Eastside Cannery for dinner. The buffet was small but the food was good. We played the penny slots for a couple of hours - I blew my $20 and Bruce walked away with his $20 plus $6. We enjoy playing the penny video slots since they have extra little fun things that play, if you are lucky enough to land on them.
February 28, 2009 (Saturday)
Off to the races! Headed out around 11 and was at the track by 11:45, traffic was heavy but keep a slow steady pace. Bruce had packed lunch so we ate in the truck before walking a mile to the track! We had our usual great seats with extra space since Donna and Harold didn't make the race this year. The race was crazy, lots of wrecks in the first 30 laps, even was red flagged twice to clean up the debris. Greg Biffle won. Traffic back to the park was, again, heavy but moving down Las Vegas Blvd.
March 1, 2009 (Sunday)
We were ready to leave by 10:15 so decided to head for the track and a good thing we left then! The traffic was unbelievable!! I-15 had a lane down for construction so seems that most people decided to come over to Las Vegas Blvd. We were still in traffic at 12:30 so ate lunch on the road. Finally got to a parking spot way up at Gate 8 which is out by the Bullpen and it was about 12:45 by then. Got to our seats right as they started driver’s introduction so we’d missed all the pre-race shows. Very disappointing! Again, had a great seats with plenty of room since the 2 seats next to us were empty. Race was good, even though Kyle Busch won. He did put on a good post win show, even blew out a tire doing a burn out right in front of us. Took us 3.5 hours to get back into town. We wanted to go to the grand opening of the M casino but so did about 20,000 other people. We sat in traffic and watched their great fireworks show.
